OLC KIDS SUMMER CHESS CAMP

OLC Kids Summer Chess Camp (for ages 7 to 13) is a week-long half day camp consisting of chess instruction and play. We have 4 sessions to choose from depending on the student's chess level. The Beginners / Unrated sessions are for those with a chess rating** of below 1000 and unrated students. The Intermediate / Advanced sessions are for students with a chess rating of above 1000. The chess camp starts at 8:30am (PT) and ends at 11:30am (PT). The chess camp starts at 8:30am (PT) and ends at 11:30am (PT).Students will need to bring their own snacks each day.
Note: Due to the size of the venue, we will only allow a total of 12 students per session. Please sign up as soon as possible before spots are taken.
*Some basic chess knowledge is recommended for beginners.
**Chess rating can be from chess associations like the OSCF (Oregon Scholastic Chess Federation), or from other chess websites such as chess.com or lichess.org . If you have questions re: your child's chess rating, please contact us directly.
Deadline to register is the Friday (4pm) before the start of each session.
Session 1 (Beginners / Unrated) deadline is on July 5. CLOSED. Camp ended.
Session 2 (Intermediate / Advanced) deadline is on July 12. CLOSED. Camp ended.
Session 3 (Beginners / Unrated) deadline is on Aug. 2. CLOSED. Camp ended.
Session 4 (Intermediate / Advanced) deadline is on Aug. 9. CANCELLED due to low registration.
About Our Chess Camp Coach
(Jerry Sherrard)
Jerry Sherrard is a private chess coach. With over 15 years tournament experience, he has attained the USCF CM title. After teaching chess classes with Chess Vision and Mozek Games, he decided to work privately. He is currently working with coach GM Sam Khanin to advance his chess playing and coaching. Since 2010, Jerry has enjoyed coaching people of all ages to reach their potential in our beloved ancient game.

- We'll play chess in the following formats: Free Play, Game in 15, and an UNRATED chess tournament during the last day of camp (with prizes).
SCHEDULING:
- Session 1: July 8 to 12, 2024 - This session is for Beginner / Unrated students only.
- Session 2: July 15 to 19, 2024 - This session is for Intermediate / Advanced students only.
- Session 3 : Aug. 5 to 9, 2024 - This session is for Beginner / Unrated students only.
- Session 4: Aug.12 to 16, 2024 - This session is for Intermediate / Advanced students only.
PRICING:
- $220.00 (for current OLC Kids Chess Club members)
- $250.00 (for non-members)
WAITLIST & CANCELLATIONS:
- If spots are filled up, your child will be put on a WAITLIST with a position number (ex. 1st in line). You will be notified via phone or email if there are any withdrawals based on your position number. If you decline to take the spot, we will contact the next person in line on the Waitlist.
- If, for whatever reason, your child cannot make it to the entire summer camp after being registered, please give us a call or send us an email at least 3 days before the start of camp and we'll give you a full refund (if you've already paid). The available space will then be given to the next person in line on the WAITLIST.
